Shipping Machines

My company is moving and we need to ship our machines we are not going far, a total of twelve miles. I need to know if I really need to mount the shipping brackets on the ways or if it will be alright if I don't. I personally think that they would need to be put back on.

The problem is for one of the machines I don't have anything because it's older and they purchased it way before I ever got here and someone threw them away or something. Hurco Bmc-30 VMC, I think I could possibly mount something into the spindle and bolt it to the table and that would be sufficient. The rest of the machines I have the brackets and I think I'm going to put them on if it is really necessary.

Any Ideas?

Geof will become famous soon enough

I am a great believer in overkill...put the brackets on. Maybe your truck driver will stop for lunch and leave the truck idling, according to what I have read about false brinelling of bearing races this could be enough.

And I would suggest fabricating a bracket to bolt to the spindle nose for the one you lost; putting something in the spindle then gripping it in a vise means the table movement is being prevented by the stationary spindle bearings.

Like Geof said, do it.

A small piece of aluminum angle will be sufficient for the Hurco.

I think I will use the brackets on all the axis for the 3 mill and 1 lathe.
For this Hurco, There is 2 bolt holes right above the coolant block, I'm going to lower the Z axis onto blocks of wood and then take a piece of angle drill 2 holes and mount to table, as for the X and Z I'll have to take the way covers off and see what I can do.

Thanks
