Talking Fagor Digital Linear Scales and Display

We recently installed new scales from Fagor on a manual boring mill. We have one axis that is not measuring the correct movement when we move the Axis. Over a 1" movement measured by a dial indicator it looses app. .070 and it also does not return to zero on display or dial. It appears to not be processing the scale readings properly. I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction to troubleshoot and correct what is causing this error. Is the error likely to be in the scale itself or the processor in the head or in the display unit as this system can run in metric or imperial. Thanks in advance.

To check if it is the head unit, switch the cables and see if it still still loses repeatability (it will be on Y now).

Most likely the scale or read head. Send it back for replacement.

This is assuming it is installed correctly.

Fagor Scales

Thanks Darebee for the reply. The Fagor rep is coming in Monday. We checked the Y scale over its entire length of 60" and it had many spots where it just stopped reading and the slide kept moving. The Z axis slide has a different problem. When the slide is reversed the slide starts moving and there is app. .025" movement before the digital readout starts to read. It happens only on a reversal. The error is not as much out in the extreme reach of the travel. We checked to see if the bracket that holds the read head was deflecting somehow but it clearly shows the same error. I don't know what conditions would allow the read head to move on an axis reversal but not register the movement on the readout. Nothing is ever simple. These are brand new scales right out the box so contaminiation shouldn't be a factor. The X-axis scale runs app. 80" and it is working fine. The scales are installed to with in the tolerance of .008" of the slide travel in both planes.
