Is it worth your while to spend $3200 ? You can get a decent new chinese lathe of the same size and equally heavy for that price. I bought my sheldon a few months ago, same size but much heavier (maybe they have the weight wrong) with a LOT of tooling and a DRO for $950.

Any lathe that old, unless it sat somewhere in a government reserve bunker (like my 6x18 surface grinder) will be well worn and need work. Unless restoring beautiful old machines without consideration of cost is your hobby, don't spend that much money on such an old piece of equipment unless it looks and operates perfect.

kietholivier do you have a source for sheldon stuff? We ha a 20" swing 60" bed lathe that I am having a hard time finding a manual for, much less a source for parts. I found one place that has reprints of manuals on cd, but his listing shows up to a 15" swing engine lathe. I learned on a Leblond 1950's era engine lathe and this 1970's Sheldon seems to be very similar. And yes I am a hammer&indicator Dinosaur. G
