Smile Help Required - Mori Seiki TL 2 (RETROFIT)

Hi there-

I am in need of some help from some "old-timers" out there. I have recently puchased a Mori Seiki TL2 CNC lathe for a price i could not refuse. The machine was working in a production enviroment about 5 years ago and is in incredibly good condtion.

What I need is any information ( Schematics and manuals) that you guys might have out there. The machine is a Mori-Seiki TL2 with a Fanuc 2000c Controller.

I am also going to convert the machine to Mach 3 control , But i would just like to get it working for now as a manual Lathe (via the panel).

Any help out there?

Smile Progress Update

Hi all,

Thanks for the schematics, it made things a bit easier.

Ok, this is what I have decided to do with the hulk of metal now occupying my thoughts and nightmares.

(1) Use the existing DC servo motors , but replace the resolvers and tachos with encoders.

(2) Use one Rutex 2020 and one Rutex 2010 to drive the above Servo's

(3) Build a new P4 PC to run mach 3 connected to a optoisolated mobo by Rutex.

(4) Build a new control panel with a touch screen and some of those neat keyboard emulators to control the various functions, tailstock in/out , spindle speed control, coolant ... etc.

(5) Try to write or steal some code to make the auto tool changer work

(6) Make a Spindle positon encoder work for threading applications( use cnc4pc items?)

I need to know the following
(1) Are there any other(than rutex) reasonably priced servo drives that can handle 40 A servos?

(2) Am I missing anything in my Shopping List?

Any help on this will be most appreciated

Unhappy Rutex drives ?

Hi all

Here follows my Captains Log ( Stardate 2012010203)
I have removed most of the covers on my Mori-Seiki tl-2 Lathe and now and eagerly await any contact from RUTEX!. They are the only people that have a 40A servo drive in my budget, but I am rapidly trying to find alternatives.

If there are any working second hand 40A rutex drives out there then i would be happy with that too.
