    spindle unit for a lathe

    Hello guys,

for a mill its easy, you cann buy a spindle from sherline, Nsk, Setco or Jaeger.

    But for a lathe???????

I`m looking for a unit just like the picture bellow.
Clampingrange from 2 to 10 mm or close.
    pullydrive will be nice.

Do you guys know companies that make this units?
Are there components sold like only the clamping unit?
what is the bearingsetup or are there explowded views off it on the net?

    every info iss welcom.

    regards,

    Roy Bakker.

Am I missing something or wouldn't a collet chuck be suitable 5C etc?
Or is it a high speed spindle you are looking for?

I've been wanting to start a cnc lathe project also. i was going to buy an asian lathe and retrofit it, then i thought about buying just the headstock (you can get the 7X10 headstock cheap) but i wanted something bigger and more substantial. so now i have been looking at buying a used headstock on ebay. they are on there pretty often and i think that i will be able to find one that fits my needs soon. i already have some nice linear components set asside fot the project. Soon as i find the something that i can clean and tune up at work that has some sort of capacity my project will be on its way.

    what were your plans?

Roy, You might want to google "Dunham lathe spindles" They produce "cartridge spindles". You could build your own headstock to fit your design.
