Exclamation Harrison M300 general rebuild question

This is not directly related to CNC but I need my lathe back together ASAP so I can finish my milling machine conversion to CNC!! (taken nearly a year now!)So if anyone can offer advice on the following it would be appreciated:-

Recently due to re-location from the UK to France, I had to separate the lathe bed of my M300 from its base for transport and noticed a filler material between the bed and base which broke up as the two parts were separated.

The filler looked a bit like plastic padding and I tried to coat the bed before re-assembly, but it went off before I could rejoin the bed to its stand (2 attempst at this!!). I assume its there to prevent distortion of lathe bed when bolted down but as the base is sheet metal construction I wondered if I could leave it out as the stand may move before the bed? If not does anyone know of any alternative compound? (Tried Harrison in UK for info and recieved no reply and promises to telephone back also brought no result).

Thanks

John

the guy from 600lathes who does this goes in our local pub and explained it in great detail to me

ill ask him what it is

i wouldnt leave it out as it supports the bed when you bolt it down to rewarp
and align it

i live about 500mtrs from harrison in heckmondwike

Re-fitting a lathe bed to stand

Thanks for asking around butI managed to sort it out in the end and Harrisons told me the compound to use. The filler isTiponex Polyester Repair Paste Containing Styrene, together with hardner BPO without plasticizer.I did a search on this and it appears to be similar to body repair filler. So I gave it a go and after 3 attempts got the lathe bed suitably bedded down to its stand. The biggest problem was that the filler kept going off before I had chance to align the bed. This was overcome in the end by very rapid assembly using two people and a mini digger!!! don't ask!!

Cheers

John
