I'll be there on the 7th and 8th. I will spend the majority of the time looking at CAM software and 5-axis machines.

Has anybody been to West tech and Imts. I was woundering how the two different shows compare.
We go to Westec every year and also to IMTS every two years (as exhibitors). Westec used to be a much bigger show than it is today. Now, it's really just a regional show and some big exhibitors don't even bother to show up. IMTS is "the big one" here in the US, and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. If it's not at IMTS, then it probably doesn't exist.
I like IMTS much better. There's much more to see at the show, and much more to do in the city afterwards (Chicago is a great town). It is tough to get around by car in Chicago, so I recommend that you fly in and use cabs or busses to get around. There are shuttle busses that go from the show to all the major hotels, and to/from the airports also. For side trips within Chicago, a cab is the only way to go. If you stay in the suburbs, look for a hotel with a shuttle to IMTS. If you have to fight rush-hour traffic in Chicago, you'll be sorry! There's a lot of construction going on right now on the main North/South freeway (I90/94), so the traffic is a mess.
IMTS is laid out pretty well. You can see all the tooling stuff in one area, all the welding & fabricating stuff in another, etc. Wear your sneakers, 'cause you're going to walk a lot!
