    Machine bearings

I have a small metal lathe, the X and y axsis of the machine I building is hardened drill rod .750 +/- .0005. I'd like to machine bearings to take advantage of the precision of the drill rod. I know bronze if used for bearings, and have seen Delrin used here. I assume the Delrin isn't hard enough to hold tight tolerences? Recommendations?

    pminmo,

I have purchased bronze bearings for about $1 each from McMaster Carr. Search for "plain bearings". Unfortunately the tolerance is something like +-.001". Otherwise bore your own out of oil impregnated bronze.

You could also go the linear bearing route. Look at Enco.
Search for "linear bearings" and "ball bushing". Pages 1027 - 1030.
    "Bronze SAE 841", page 698.
