    Nickel plated table

I was just admiring this shiny new mill and I started to wonder how practical it would be if I were to nickel plate my existing mills table so that it would look like this? On the up side it will be less prone to rusting. So I donno, thought I'd get your guy's opinions on the matter.

That's not nickel plated, just a nice smooth finish on the steel. Nickel plating would be bad for precision. Unless you got a perfectly uniform thickness, the table would never be flat again. Also, what happens as the stuff chips off? You'll have an uneven surface.

Nickel plated steel might look nice, but it's not as hard and durable as good old steel.

The best thing you can get is a table and ways that have been chrome frosted. You see this a lot on bridgeport machines, looks like a fancy swirl pattern but really hard and precision thickness.
