    Threading with tail stock

I'm using a Mazak QT 250 HP. I'm trying to thread using a tail stock. I went into TPC and changed where the threading tool starts in X at 5 and Z at 0 so it can start at 0 and clear the tail stock. It comes down and starts at 0 but jumps back to .164. If it starts here by the 4 pass it runs into the tailstock.. I even tryed changing U5 ( safety contour clearance face) to .02. Nothing has worked..help please

Many machines will do this if you have a lead in/lead out feature enabled. I'm not super familiar with Mazatrol, but you may want to look up in your manual to see if you have the option to turn on or off (with G-code most likely) the thread start angle.

    Good Luck!

You can put G-code into the control....Either pure G-code using the EIA input option, or within Mazatrol by going to the TPC (tool path control) option within the program mode.

I have no idea how you're going to manage synchronizing the tailstock the the spindle, or feeding at a precise speed while in "run" mode.

Are you tapping or using a die/die head? You might consider making up a special toolholder that will allow you to double up on a station...assuming you're out of tool positions, hence the tailstock idea?

My take is that you'll spend more time screwing with the tailstock idea than if you reduce the number of tools to free up a station or somehow double up, which is actually pretty easy from the programming perspective.
