Just a "compact" CNC machine with a mini-ATC

Went to an amazing shop floor in Switzerland last week. These two machines and associated "automatic tool changers" were the highlight!

    First a "compact" spindle...

Yes, I said Compact, see it there on the door! The "small" robot is the toolchanger for this machine...

And from outside, a shot of the tooling rack for that robot:

The other machine was the same CNC, but a different style toolchanger:

Rows and Rows off $$$$$ tools - I bet they had $1-2 MM dollars in tooling on these machines - let alone the cost of the CNCs themselves and the robot/ATCs! Almost all the cutting tools were carbide TiAlN coated.

And here is the "work pallet" storage for parts on the second machine. They said it can handle 2 ton slabs of incoming raw material, and for some parts works 24 hours non-stop to make the final machined part.

Maybe a watch for Paul Bunyan!

The company was Rychiger. They build machines. Their highest sales right now are for machines to fill the single use coffee containers for Nespresso.

They also have literally TONS of coffee there for testing on the machines:

That's a 1000 kg bag, and there are 20-30 more in the background...

Several of the tools pictered were small straight shank collet holders (ER16?) held in what looked to be solid (set screw) HSK toolholders. Strange setup for such a high dollar operation.

Do you mean the ones with the blue bodies? Those look like Tension/Compression tap holders.
