What is the part called that you put the R8 taper into the head of the mill?

What is the part called that you put the R8 taper into the head of the mill? Is that the spindle exactly? or is it something else.

I'm trying to workout how hard it would be to make a rigid spindle that will accept standard sized tooling. I guess it is just two bearing, on at the top one at the bottom and then the spindle which I guess is hollow where the tapperd attachment goes into it.

Can I just buy that part, because everything else in the head of the machine will just be a motor and belts???

If you want to make yourself a spindle. you will get the best results with 2 angular contact bearings mounted back to back on the taper side and 1 normal bearing on the other side of the spindle.

    greetings
