I have a Weboturn 400 and I am looking for the output diagnostic numbers for the encoder on the tool turret. It is 8 tools, the control is Fanuc 3Tand I need to check if the encoder is functioning correctly. I have noticed that the bits 6.7,6.8 and 8.4 - 8.7 seem to be affected by the rotationof the tool changer. Right now the turret rotates continuously no matter what tool number is put in. (in MDI) I have many pages of the books which came with the machine. I have found this machine to be exceptionally accurate and flexible with the turret speeds of 8k. Please help out if you can. Jim

    Jim,
there is a proximity sensor that goes bad occasionally, have replaced it twice. adjustment is pretty critical too. check the wiring. does it spin on start up?
or does it know where it is when it starts. does it change direction? ie, go the closest route to the tool called for? the adjustment may be borderline and not picking up certain tools. Or if you did change any parameters it may be looking for the tool too quicky. I had to adjust this parameter as it would do ok with the close tools but time out and throw a fault before the called for tool dropped into place. This is a customers machine I was having the parameter problems on. I did a truth table with the encoder and the tools with the affected bits (on the terminal strip) as described in the book. It looked OK, I mean I could follow the incrementing changes as it rotated around. I'm not sure which parameter you could look at it directly in but I'm sure its in the 200 series, which isn't documented. (MTB assigned) I don't have the book or table that I drew out. I gave it back and we are not on terms with this customer at this time, where I could get the info from him (non-payment) so I can't help too much more, just some general info. Also noticed this machine very susecptable to heat issues.

Jim, reread your post and I'm pretty sure its the proximity sensor. not sure if its NPN or PNP, I'm thinking NPN of the top of my head. around $80 from local sensor distributor Allied, Newark. MTB probably 2-3X that.

Sparkey, The turret turns in the same direction no matter what tool is called. It does not kknow what tool station is in place. ?The was the result of a rotational crash, chuck jaws to tool. The tool clamp prox sensor was shaved off at the end from being in the housing to far. I replaced the sensor, but I had nothing to go on as the tags were off, so I got a normally open, right voltage, diameter ect. It is installed an according to the led it is working. I do not have the bit reference for the sensor either, so I cannot tell if it truly works. I installed with all power totall down and locked out, so it should be functioning. My one issue is whether it should be normally open (NO) or closed (NC). I do not know which, NPN or PNP, to use. This machine has been very sccurate, but it has a Souter tool turret and the bearings run very true. It lead a former life of tool components and first pieces before I optained the machine. The biggest fault is the absence of documentation. I appreciate the info. jim
