    Safety concern

The owner of our company decided to replace the cracked window in the CNC lathe that I run today. He thought it was a good idea to replace it with a 1/8 piece of lexan. This is a Nakamura Tome 20 CNC lathe. How safe is this?
I am thinking this won't stop anything thrown from the chuck or even a broken piece of carbide that gets slung the wrong direction. Could someone weigh in with what I should tell my boss?
    thanks

Sure, tell your boss that when someone gets killed or hurt, it's now 100% his responsibility, and he will loose everything in court. I have first hand knowledge of this, and have seen the aftermath. Even installing factory replacement windows yourself in machines will open you up for massive lawsuits. At least with factory windows, even if they are the same material, the company assumes some liability who makes them, so would a service organization that installs them. ALL machine windows, no matter how good they look, are supposed to be changed after 5-6 years.

Tell him to go to a local Automotive plate & glass, they cut some for me from tempered glass, not that expensive.
