    Knee Mill retrofit Advice

I have an old Bridgeport Knee Mill (9x42) I wanted to retrofit to CNC. I wanted to hear any pros and cons and Advice!.

From what I see I need new screws for x and y as there is too much backlash in what I have. What have people done for the spindle? Currently It is a rack and pinion design. it too has some backlash.
    Am I wasting my time?

Monetarily you will most likely be better off in picking up a used CNC mill with still some life left in it, or at least only needs a new controller.
