CNC controls for a Grizzly GO492

Hi'
I want to put CNC controls on my Grizzly model GO492 combination mill/lathe. I also need some form of manual control. This is my first project and I can use any and all help that you guys can provide. I have talked to Keling technology, and he reffered me here for starters.
Thanks,
Mike

Go to the CNC CONTROLS forum and get on CAM SOFT.
I have a cam soft retrofit on a gantry flame cutter and it works every day, every time. and the control is very flexable to use on any thing that moves.
Good Luck

If you are looking for a machine to do work with, then you are headed down the wrong path. Converting that machine to CNC will be a long project, with questionable functionality when its finished. You would be better off to look at one of the CNC mills available on the market, or a combo machine like the Shopmaster if you want lathe and mill both.
If you are doing it for a fun project, no problem, you will learn a lot in the process.

He is correct. Putting a cnc on a machine takes someone with a wealth of machine tool engineering experience and considerable time. You'd be wise to hire an expert to tell you if it's a feasible or not for the machine you have; otherwise you'd be wasting a lot of money and time. If it is feasible, I recommend you consider Fagor Automation' cnc system... a lot of bang for your dollars spent and a very capable and reliable system. See:

Products and applications of machine-tool, CNC, DRO, feedback, measuring, motion control and photovoltaic energy

Good luck!

Heads up.

Theres a guy that lives in Phoenix... I think you will find him on craigs or Ebay..
He also has video of his machine...Utube It has a tool changer and a cabinet..

When You see it.. It looks just like a Fadal Machine... Oh prob because he used to own Fadal.. When he opens up the back you see the Green Grizzly casting...

Although much of what was said above seems reasonable, I must strongly disagree. It may take a little bit of time but not as great an expense or difficulty converting your system as has been presented.

Here are a couple of examples from Youtube. Of course, you can contact the posters of these videos for schematics, etc. (This first video is an example of EXACTLY what you are looking for)

Here is another link which will probably be of good use to you.

In particular, the response to the comments will lead you to where you can get more good answers.
