well i got it home know very little about machining get it on the table and plug it in turn it on and wow the lathe spin kinda
switch it over to mill and wow it spin kinda not really it struggling now i can grab it
so i took the lathe section apart found that the old chinese bearing grease was
old and solidified

put it together and dam it spins good and strong
im not going to grab that one this time
so on to the mill

What is it- Smithy, Grizzly, Shoptask, Harbor Freight- They all have their own forums- if you don't know, post some pictures.

Buy me a Beer?

Do you have a copy of the manual?

If not, you can download it from http://manuals.harborfreight.com/man...-5999/5980.pdf

It does not show specifically how to disassemble the mill head, but there is a parts diagram on page 17 that may be of some use.

OK- That looks almost identical to the Smithy Midas machine- they are probably from the same factory, so if the geniuses at Harbor Freight can't help, Smithy probably could.
Anyway, if you want to re-pack the spindle bearings, its pretty easy-
1. Remove the belts and sheetmetal stuff.
2. The big pulley over the splined shaft will pry off with some even pressure up on each side.
3. Once the pulley is off you will find a plate with a roller bearing- the plate is held on with 4 screws-
4. Once the bearing and plate are off you will see the nuts holding the bearings - these are spanner nuts, so just use a hammer and punch to loosen them.
5. Once the spanner nuts are off, you can drive the spindle out of the quill- use a wood block to protect the spines.
