    Arrow Threading ???

2 weeks ago got a phone call to pick up a mill and a lathe for FREE if I could get them out of his garage they were mine all mine !! They had been siting there for 5 years and he told me what you see is what you get, (missing tail stock and tool holders for quick change and 8" 4 jaw chuck and 3 jaws for the 6" chuck) Now, the lathe a King model 1440 and the mill, King model KC-45 so a lathe of 14x40 weighing 1300lbs and a rong-fu 45 of 700lbs had to be moved to my basement. Not to worry got them both in the truck with a fork lift and into the basement with no problems!!

Now for my little question... threading wise as I looked on the lathe there are 2 diagrams for threading and for placement of the gears one says 40T to 120T/127T to 40T and the other is 40T to 127T to 40T so which one is right ???

Freemen - 40-120/127-40 is for threading metric with an inch lead screw or threading inch with a metric lead screw. 40-127-40 does nothing but change direction.

My lead screw is 8TPI and I did not notice anything metric in the diagrams, and since I don't have a manual with it which gearing placement would be the right one for making 3/8 16TPI ?

    Looks pretty straightforward to me.

As long as you have the gear train going from the two 40T gears through the 127T gear, set the selector knobs to C1 and have at it.
