Jeff...
I have attempted a retro-fit using mach 3 and a kit I bought from Wantai Motors in China. The steppers are model 85bygh450c-012. The kit included
power supply and drivers.
I was never able to get the steppers to work. I tried to set up Mach 3 as it should be and I think I wired the kit as it should be.
I have watched the troubleshooting video on Mach 3's site. The mach 3 DRO screen shows that I have movement but I don't. I followed the troubleshooting advice in the video but was not able to get stepper movement.
I have contacted Wantai but have got no help from them.
If any one can offer any advice on getting these motors to work I would be thankful.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
Hi, I have one of these kits.
It sounds like your break out board is incorrectly wired, it is 'opto coupled' so i think it may need a 5 volt source, cant remember.
Download the instructions for the Kelling cnc breakout board as it is very similar to wanti's. (cheap clone)
i had trouble with the midband for tuning, i think the only way around it is too increase voltage and current, experimentation can bring results, be patient.
I want to send out a special thanks to Jeff for his patients, time, & knowledge. Jeff walked me through getting the motors working. Thanks Jeff for helping a novice. Thanks for your kindness maybe someday I will no longer be a novice and I can pass the helping hand to someone.![]()
i dont know what to say here a place full of experts and every help thread i seen here there is no reply can someone please answer me that and i seen it over alot of forums . . .. . . .
am sorry but go throught the manual again and just start over it often works the best and the fastest instead of trying to explain it to an empty forum![]()
Hi evilr1, this thread has been idle for quite a while. "there is no reply can someone please answer me that" not sure what your question was since there wasnt one but i will be nice because i can sympaphise with your frustration freind.
The wantai is a keeling clone kit, google and 'smd8056' or whatever the name is in pdf format only and chances are you'll hit the mark for instruction sets. (wantai did not provide)
My cnc project is shelved indefinately for now, a lot of specifics have slipped my mind so i cant be (specific).
Keep up the detective work, remember this is half of the fun of diy cnc! Pushing a button in a factory on a mazak does not provide the level of expertise a diy kit will.
You will become a heaps better tradesman for exploring the matter.
Dirk.
