Relay Help

Hello again all!

Wondering if someone could help me with how to use a relay?
I have a Logitrol Cnc Controler, it has 2 relays built into it they are 48vdc 1 amp relays.

I want to be able to use one for turning a vacuum off and on. the vacuum runs on 110. Can anyone tell me what I need to do this and how to do it?

Thanks in advance!

Walt

Logitrol uses Mach right?
So it should be relatively easy, have you tried contacting Logitrol themselves to walk you through it?

Relay has two ends. One is coil. It is for control - to switch the relay on. 48VDC is (most likely) the voltage, which must be applied to coil in order relay to switch. 1A perhaps, is the load of other end of relay. I can't say sure, not knowing details. You need to find detailed description of the relay. What is capacity of contacts. Make sure, You know control characteristics.

not enough information. Please, find current rating and start characteristics of the motor. Generally, take appropriate motor starter and run by Your relay, this should work. Relay itself is not intended to start a motor as usual

It sounds like the relay is already in place and wired and more like help is needed to implement the pick up?
Such as implementing a suitable M code in Mach, at least that is the way I read it.

some photos please.

Take some pictures of both sides of the PCB around the relay area and the writing on the relay.

Ok here are some pictures! After looking at them they look like 15A relays not one so they should be big enough to run my vacuum I think?

Just need to know how to wire it up I guess.

They don't look like very large relays, the problem is when the give a current rating and do not state if it is resistive or inductive load, a 15a inductive load like a motor is very much derated over a resistive load value.
If you wanted to make sure, you could always wire a intermediary relay that would be cheaper to replace than the board.

Circuit board safety.

That particular relay footprint does not meet creepage distances on the PCB for 240V AC, but it may for 110v depending on whether the PCB layout has been done to the correct standards.
This is mostly about safety.
Also with 110 v the surge currents can be much higher.
You could use the contacts to operate a solid state switch, which will ensure proper isolation from mains to humans.
If in doubt ask an electrician, to ensure you maintain electrical safety standards.

ask electrician for help. You are not able to answer and to do as asked.
Sure, these relays can't drive electric motor. They can drive motor starter, perhaps.
