    Variable Frequency Drives?

Variable frequency drives, what are you guys using?

I have searched this forum and found very little in the way of info. I believe VFD's are better than phase converters correct??

Any help would be appreciated as I just bought a machine and would like to get it powered up in the next few weeks.

    Thanks,
    Scott

One month ago, i received my VFD drive PUMA 2.2KW 6Amp... My Spindle Motor is 3Phase 380Volts 2.2HP
I read the manual more than 4 times and now i am able to wire it and control the VFD with Potentiometer, Forward, Reverse and some more programmable parameters.. I will soon use Mach3 to get it running..
I am interesting in this thread.. As soon you get time post about the progress..

I guess I should put up some more info on my machine and the motor. I will post this information this afternoon.

    I think mine is 3 phase 230 or 240 volt 3 hp.

    Thanks,
    Scott

PH.C.'s are generally for powering the whole machine, VFD,s are primarily for controlling the rpm of a single motor as well as the possibility of converting 1 ph for a 3 ph motor.
Depending on the size and make/model of the machine, a VFD could be used on just the spindle and the controller and servo's fed off 1 phase, depending on the present set up of the machine.

Allen Bradley system, looks like Westamp or similar drives, probably fed from a large 1 ph linear supply.
If my guess is correct you would only need a VFD for the spindle.
The controller is most certainly 120 or MAYBE 240 for the AB controller.
