    maintenance costs

    Hi

    I'm putting together a business plan, and was wondering if anyone can help me with a few questions I have.

    I'm looking at two machines. First one would be an old but high end machining centre, maybe a '97 Mori Seiki or Okuma. Second, is something like a similar age Nakamura Tome turning centre. Both would be smaller models (sv50 Mori Seiki for example) from their range.

    My questions are, can anyone give me a very rough idea of what kind of average tool wear I might see over a month when working mainly Aluminium on the VMC, and mainly stainless on the lathe, doing single shift work.

    Second question is, what would be the expected and worst case maintenance costs ignoring operator error (crashing machine) over a period of say a year?

    I know these are fairly broad question, it's just to have something to put in the business plan.

    Kind regards

    Jonathan

    for machine maintenance costs ask Your local dealer. For tool (inserts, holders) expenses ask from tool supplier. It's their job. Ask for lubrication and hydraulic oils also. Your job is to put everything together in proper manner and address to proper investor.

    Hi Algirdas

    I appreciate your feedback but I was thinking more along the lines of personal experiences on what it costs those using this machinery to keep it working on a day-to-day, month-to-month scale. I have called the companies and I get told 3-4 hours cutting time on a carbide endmill etc, which didn't sound very long, or they can't say because of the age of the machines I'm looking at. I don't have experience with this kind of machinery but I'm setting up a company making a very specific product, I already have the designs as I said I'm just putting together the numbers. I know there are a lot of variables which is why I was trying to narrow it down to maintenance of the machine under average circumstances, all the other stuff specific to my business I have. Anything would help.

    What is so complicated here for You? Maybe You need to hire a business colledge student to create a business plan?
    1. You will get machine maintenance estimate from dealer as follows:
    * electric power consumption estimate
    * compressed air consumption
    * lubricating oils
    * hydraulic oil
    * estimate of belts, bearing, fuses, limit switches and so on replacement during five years
    2. You will get tooling expenses estimate table from Your local tool dealer, calculated according Your parts drawings.
    3. You will get insurance calculation. Insurance must cover operator mistakes and force majoure
    4. You will calculate necessary regular savings according planned five-year maintenance.
    5. Some building and infrastructure related costs
    6. Cattering
    7. Work clothes and similar
    8. Soap, toilet paper and office expenses
    9. planned business lunch
    And that's all. You need to create such a list and calculate everything. What You can't evaluate by Yourself, You ask to do professionals.
