My little tiny Bridgeport is listed at 3200 lbs. From looking at pictures, that machine is a lot bigger than my Bridgeport. I suspect that 19,000 pounds might be the factory new weight. Probably more like 20,000 now with all the excess oil, swarf, and general grunge built up inside.

Well, just take your bathroom scales along. Weigh the fork truck, then pick up the machine and weigh both the machine and the fork truck.

Maybe those are those little Japanese pounds. Maybe the weight included the shipping container. Who knows?

Good deal. You really want to deal here with someone who knows what they are doing, and a rigger should.

So ask the rigger to bring his bathroom scales....

call a trucking brooker there are trucks sitting all over and a good rigger should know some. The riggers here in mi. have little work so watch what they say about prices. 20,000 pounds is not much weight so that should not be a factor for the trucking charges

I recently moved an ~8,000 lb NC lathe and I got quotes of around $1k. That was for moving it only about 60 miles. I ended up doing it my self but it still cost me around $600 after renting a big old forklift and everything. I think $2500 isn't too bad if they are loading the machine, driving it to you and then placing it in your shop where you want it. You might get a better deal if you have a rigger there load it on a truck and another rigger by you unload it from the truck, but then you have to coordinate 2 riggers plus a truck driver.

Good Luck
Matt

Make sure you deal with professionals that are insured. I sold one of my old lathes and the guys that picked it up for the person I sold it too tipped it over unloading it at his shop. No insurance. Don't cut corners. It may cost more in the long run.

I certainly agree with that one. I hired my handyman to help me move my "new" mill about 200 miles. He was happy to put two tie-down straps around the mill and shove off. I insisted on adding two or three more tie-down straps. I also insisted on keeping the speed down a bit. He'd have been running 75 or so.

When unloading, they were going to pull in the driveway with the forklift and unload the mill, then back into the street with the forklift and mill to get the truck and trailer out of the driveway, then back into the driveway with the forklift and mill. I insisted that we get the truck out of the driveway, pull the forklift into the driveway, then back the trailer into the driveway, then unload.

We got the job done without incident, but they had an awfully cavalier attitude about the whole thing when they didn't have any of their own money invested.

OTOH, I think I moved the mill 200 miles for under $300. Not a lot of cash, but a lot of worry the whole time. But for me, having to pay a rigger to make the move would have been a deal breaker.
