Mori vs Matsuura

I'm looking at the Mori Dura Vertical 5100 and the Matsuura Vplus 1000 and can't decide between the two. The Matsuura is about 100K more expensive, but is it that much better than the Mori. Both have good service and support in my area.

If money was not an issue which one would you get?

Did you decide? I know this is odd but I am trying to decide between a Haas VF3 or a Dura 5100. Seems cut and dried but the Mori is 35k more.

John

Haas vs Mori

John, I have HAAS VF2's a VF3 and 2 VF4's, I don't know what kind of work your are doing but I've found them to be great for the first couple of years and them they start losing accuracy especially circularity has been a problem ( a difference of up to 0.0015 from the x to y axis of a circle), the newer machines I have have not been as realiable as the older machines. The VF3 I bought in 1999 has had 0 maintenance on it. The newer VF2 or VF4 have had a lot of problems, most have been minor but still they have had more down time in 4 years than my two 1999 machines have had in 11 years.

I really liked the mori seiki dura 5100 saw a few in action at some shops, I went with the matsuura because they had the machine in stock and they offered 3 year warranty + extended payment terms. I don't know how tight you are for money but I'm sure the extra 35k will be worth it. I'm never going to buy another HAAS again, I have 9 right now and I will be replacing them over the next few years with Mori's or Matsuura's

Hope that helped.

Mori or Matsuura

I asked the same question to someone who had one of each, he said both were good machines but he would lean towards the matsuura. If you look at the Mori a lot of things that are optional are included as standard on the Matsuura. The matsuura also comes with a better Fanuc control too, higher standard spindle speed. The dura's are pretty much as is, a few things can be changed but not much, you would need to go up to the NV series to get higher spindle speeds, larger tool capacity etc.

I bought a Matsuura Vplus 1000, if I were to buy a Mori NV5000 with similar features it would come to the pretty much the same cost as the Matsuura. The 2 shops I spoke to that had the dura5000's were happy with them.
