Need Help!- feed and speed woes

i cannot find a good combination of feed and speed for my table. i am running nema 23's on 3 axis'. i am using a 1hp variable speed (16,000-35,000 RPM) bosch colt router with 1/4" collet. i took my passes down from .25 to .175 but i cannot seem to get a nice clean finish on the pocket walls of a piece of poplar i am milling. the bit i am using is a 1/4" x 2 inch amana solid carbide downcut spiral. if anyone has any suggestions theyd be greatly appreciated.

i do not do much wood machining.

cutter 1/4 by 2" long flutes? at 16,000+ rpm

depth of cut .25 to .17

a cutter that is long bends and vibrates easily. can you try a shorter cutter?

many times a roughing cutter can machine 95% and then do a tool change to take light finish cuts.

vibration of cutter and machine AND workpiece can cause bad finish. machining thin material can cause the workpiece to vibrate too.
