Best non metal material for fine details

Hello,

I have a Roland MDX-40A milling machine that I use for carving my models, usually from wood. I have started making molds from the cut pieces and I would like to know what is the best material to cut in order to have the best finish and accurate reproduction of details. My models are small and have fine details. The finished wood piece tend to have sometimes rough finish due to the wood fibers, type of bit, etc.

Make your own machinable wax, if you need cheap. There are lots of recipes around. Google "Make Machinable wax".

Unless you are scrounging off-cuts and drops from somewhere, you won't find much cheaper.
