    Acrylic engraving

Hi, I´m new in the forum, thanks to let me be a part of it.
I´m looking for info regarding acrylic engraving.
My goal is to make A1 size slim led panels. So far I know they use very powerfull led strips and an optic acrylic wich is engraved with a "v pattern". This grooves are very thin (0.1 mm width and less than 0.1 mm deep aprox) and they are very close from each other (1.5 mm aprox). I´m not sure that this grooves are done with a laser, o any rotating device. I think they are done by kind of scratching tool attached to a router.
Has anybody any idea were to find or haw to make a tool like that or any other way to do this V cutting ?
    Thanks in advance.

    engraving acrylic

    Hi Artillero
I engrave acrylic, aluminum, G10 glass and all kinds of plastic at work.
I use whats called a 60 degree engraving tool, you can get them in all dia. and with V shape or round shaped ends. They are made out of carbon steel. You can probably get them werever they sell machine tools and end mills. hope this helps

    Hi Artillero,

I think what you are describing is called 'drag engraving'.

I have posted a video of a tool I made to do this in acrylic in this post:

Drag Engraving Acrylic, Aluminium & Glass

The first video shows me engraving acrylic but with much more pressure than you would use to get a very fine line. The tool is sprung so you just don't press it into the plastic so hard to get fine lines.

    Cheers,

    Bob.
