Alloy can be a real drama, especially when it starts getting thicker, try dumping as much assist air through as you can, pretty much just to "blow" the slag off right away, we're cutting some 0.45mm thick alloy shims right now and it still has to be cleaned up even with 7kg/cm(squared) of pressure. I've been told that when piercing alloy it can create a pool of molten alloy and reflect the beam back up to the lense, if you don't have the correct pierce settings, which sounds bad to me, we generally use a waterjet for alloy just for this reason, don't take my word for it tho, thats just what I've heard.
