Question Most affordable, reliable Chinese laser?

I'm new to the community and I'm looking to purchase a cheap, easy to use laser engraver and I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions / advice?

I've been eying the affordable Chinese models on Ebay, but I've read a few reviews and I'm worried I'll end up with a broken model and I wouldn’t even know where to begin if I needed to repair one. Who is a reliable vendor for the more affordable Chinese models?

Money is tight, my budget is right around $800 / $1000 max.

I'm looking for a desktop model that can engrave around 12"x12"or less.

Something just strong enough to etch, glass, wood, plastic etc.

I use Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop on Windows 7, 64-bit, so knowing the format it accepts is important.

A one year warranty is a plus, but depending on the price I know not to expect much.

This is primarily for hobby, but I expect to use it a lot, what is the life span of the machine and what expected costs should I factor in?

    Thanks!

    Hi EamesEra,

I'm looking for the same laser cutter that you described. Did you find a laser cutter that comes close in either price or using Illustrator?

    Thanks

    Hi there
just some advice you need to look for a machine who has a DSP conroller with two stepper driver, very importand because most of the machines come with moshiboard and moshidraw or so as soft ware what is the worst and everybody wana converte them afterwards but it runs then on $ 800.
in the first place you got the choice and the power to select the right one around $ 1,000
just some advice from somebody who converts now quite a few machines.
if you need more help send me a PM
    greetings
    walt

Don't buy those cheap laser engravers off of E-bay. Just don't. There's a ton of horror stories already on the every CNC forum on the net and you don't want another one. Listen to Rodney, his word is Gold.

Yes, we suppliers don't suggest mini machine under USD1000 much. That is not a good choice. Some customers imagine that it has no difference with larger machines but only smaller in size. In fact differs much.
