    Red Dot Pointers?

Hello. I have a couple of questions. I have read some posts about Red Dot Pointers. Is that a name brand or is it a type of pointer or both? I would like to get some more info on the name brand? Any one knows who sells them and for how much? I tried google it but I keep getting sent to Alibaba. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't seen the posts, but I assume you mean something like this. I recently ordered one of these for use on our machining centers. When I got it, I was quite disappointed. The center dot is very poor quality. It looks like the lens is cracked. The circles all look very good, but not the dot. It isn't going to work for what I wanted to do with it. I sent an email to the supplier did not good encouraging news. If you send me your email address, I'll forward it to you.

If you don't mind creating a custom holder Aixiz has some really nice laser modules. They have several different lens styles too; dot, line, crosshair, etc...

You'll need to figure out a way to hold the module (commonly 12mm dia and ~30mm long) and you'll need around 5V to power the thing.

The website is aixiz.com but I suggest calling and asking for Chuck if you have any questions. He is very helpful and knows his stuff.

    aixiz laser

    Hi,

Have you actually used one of the aixiz lasers? If so would you mind posting what the acutal dot or X looks like when projected onto a part?

A good friend of mine recently gave me an X laser with and adjustable lens on it and it works pretty well but the laser light could be a little sharper. Just wondered how yours looked.

Also, like dak1 mentioned that clarity of the dot not being that great on the item he purchased. I also purchased one of the early designs by that firm and the laser dot is way to big to do any really accurate work. It works fine for getting the approximate center of parts on my bridgeport mill with using my DRO and finding half or either X or Y.

Just some input from someone who has tried one.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Actually I am trying to do something a little different. Perhaps I am not using the correct words. I am trying to inject a red laser beam in the path of a invisble beam ( ie. C02 or yag) and see if it will help show the path of the invisible beam for aligment purposes. Thank You

Yes, you are right. Red dot shows a red beam and red pointer beside laser head, then can show the working dot(place) on the surface of materials. If your laser machine doesn't equiped with red pointer as first, then you can install it by yourself. In this case, you need 5V power supply, red dot, red dot lens and some wires. Maybe you can buy them from the laser machine manufacture. Or if you like, you can also buy it from me. We are also a manufacture(GWEIKE laser) for laser machine.

    Betty,

    He's after a beam combiner

    best wishes

    Dave

ps: Use a green pointer if possible, they are visible across the axis in low light with normal eyesight

Aixiz lasers, like most, have around a 3mm beam diameter. It can not get any smaller than this. You can focus it to a point, but that's about it.

I don't think green lasers work with red combining optics. The beam combining "lens" is just a piece of ZnSe that passes CO2 wavelength but reflects 660nm wavelength. Have you actually used a green laser with a normal red/co2 combing optic? That would be sweet, green lasers naturally have a thinner beam than red diode lasers too. Another bonus!

Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) combiners work Ponti they pass IR but reflect 532nm green

    best wishes

Thank You, everyone for the repiles. I will send off for some info on beam combiners. ( Actually I just did but I am not sure if it was posted. I will check when I get home tonite). I also will read the posts on beam combiners on this forum. As far as the choice of colors. Years ago I saw red ones ( HeNe) being use. I wonder if that was more of a factor of cost or of availiblity. Also I wonder if the beam combiner is just a lens unit or is it a lens and visible laser unit combination? Thanks again.
