    Lazer or router engraver

I am looking for a small Lazer or Router CNC for engraving key chains, medallions, cig. lighters, metal gun slides all in 3d. I am not looking to go cheap but quality at a fair price.

it seems your object is metal surface with engraving depth. cnc router is better.because CO2 laser usually target to nonmetal materials with very limit engraving depth/ about 0.01mm. but router can engrave much depth with tool.

A YAG laser could do what you want but the price will probably not be tolerable. Mechanical engraving is probably your best bet to get started.

Mechanical meaning what? Would a Router be a better choice?

Mechanical means mechanically removing the material with some form of cutting tool. A carbide half round V cutter may be a place to start.
