    Quick questions to Infernus...

1 Your happy with your machine now basically?

2 Is this decision to buy a bigger metal tube machine because of time constraints on the little machine? ( meaning how long it takes to do something vs a bigger more powerful machine? ).

    Thanks
    Todd

I'm... tolerant... of the machine. I still use it daily, I have some business functions that I'd be up a creek without a paddle without the laser. I've fully learned it's limitations. It works, but I want and need more. But I'm not HAPPY with it. For example, this last week I've noticed that my vector power changes with where on the table the laser head is. Likely because of alignment. Meaning things have loosened or moved and I need to spend an hour realigning the laser again. Thats frustrating that I need to go through that process again.

I'm happy with the Retina product. I'm still on-again-off-again frustrated with the laser itself. Its a machine that always works 98% and theres always something just off... and you fix it, and something else is now just a little off...

As for #2: Its multifold. I cut a lot of cardstock. To get a decent cut, 2 sheets thick, I needed to manually edit the config file to increase the max vector speed of the machine, and now I can cut 2 sheets but I get some charring. A larger, more powerful machine will cut faster, and cleaner. And not just in cardstock. I've spoken to some epilog owners who laser cut wood, and the quality of what they produce vs. what I produce is night and day. The 80watt laser will vaporize the wood that my laser burns (and leaves scorch marks on). They are also higher quality machines, a little more accurate, and a hell of a lot faster. I can produce a better product with it.

That being said, my business cant really justify the cost just yet... but it's a catch 22... have a better laser, sell a better product, make more money to afford said laser. Which comes first, the profit or the laser?

The table area is 12.5x16, but the laser head only travels in about a 9x14 area. Something that wasnt advertised when I bought it... I assumed you could laser the full table size...

ohh i overlooked that and thought work area was the actually size it could cut.... thats kinda odd, why wouldnt it be able to cut the full size of the work area.......

Im debating getting a laser cutter, the one i had at school was 12k plus and did like 18x 24... do you find yourself wishing you had a larger work space often? or is the 9x14 substantial?

I wanted to add this about the engrave-able area for the 40W hobby laser. Even though you can, in vector mode, use roughly 9.5"X14.5". Your work area in raster mode is substantially smaller. Your work area is reduced by about 2" on the x-axis. This is because the gantry will crash into the railing making it impossible to use the entire engrave-able area. In raster mode your looking at 9.5"X12.5" work area.

It all depends on what you're using it for. I cant speak for how you'll use the laser. For me, for some things I do, I do wish it was larger... but for now it works.

Regarding that, and an interesting quirk.

    SLOW DOWN your Raster speed.

    It'll raster faster.

    Yep.

    Why?

Fast raster needs more acceleration and deceleration space. (The 'slam the gantry' area).

If you SLOW DOWN, you can start and stop faster.

It'd be like a person racing a motorcycle in a 20 foot sprint back and forth 20 times. The motorcycle is 50x as fast as the person, but each time he crosses the end zone, he needs to slam the brakes, turn around, and hit the gas again, likely 15-30 feet PAST the 'finish line'.

The runner just touches the line and turns around. He'd actually be faster completing the 20 passes.

    Hello,

You noted that your laser machine has started to come out of aligment. I recommend that you adjust your laser machine alignment to best that you can do. Then you should place a small amount of finger-nail-polish on the threads. This will keep the screws from coming loose. You will be able to loosen the polish with just a few drops of acetone.

I would also like to offer tech support to anyone that asks .. by email.

We have plenty of laser machines in stock. If you are looking for a new laser machines, then please check us out. .. We have a proven history of tech support and great product.

Please mention this email to get a 10 % discount off the list prices of ANY accessory or laser machine.

    Thank You,

About the forum vs knowledge base... I guess what they should setup is an WIKI ! Forum are really bad for that... Except for general issue discussion that could be useful on a google search... But since they don't allow this, it defy the purpose of it !
