I am looking to buy a laser engraver/cutter

    Hello All,
    First time on this site

Can anyone advise / help me,

I am looking at sites, and requesting information on the products.

I am looking to buy a laser engraver/cutter with a minimum working area of
    2m X 1m.

It needs to be at least 60-100w CO2 system. I want the system to have the capability to run out of the box (some assembly understood), so must have all the peripherals to run. Needs to work with windows and Coreldraw. Air assist, auto focus and red-dot pointer preferred.

If you have any advice relating what I am looking for, please email JOHN at visiboard@hotmail.com
I will be purchasing in approximately 4 months.
Please include shipping costs to Bournemouth, Dorset, UK BH11 8DG

    Hello All,

I am tired of looking at all the sites, for US, China, etc.. and requesting information on the products. I have noticed that a lot of reps seem to monitor these threads, so here it goes. I am looking to buy a laser engraver/cutter with a rough working area of roughly 48x36, but it can give or take a little. It needs to be at least 60-100w CO2 system. I want the system to have the capability to run out of the box (some assembly understood), so must have all the peripherals to run. Needs to work with windows and coreldraw. Air assist, auto focus and red-dot pointer preferred. If you are a sales rep and think you have what I am looking for, please email me at michalerd@yahoo.com and compete for my business. (I will be purchasing in approximately 1 month). Please include shipping costs to Hawaii, area code 96782.

    Mahalo.....

Smile Definitely not the same person I assure you.

Although I looked at this message and followed the same format I am definitely not the same person.

I am looking for a laser machine that can engrave and large pieces of glass to be used to shower doors on table tops.

I have been doing decorative sandblast for the last 15 years and I am about to retire.

Would like to purchase a machine that would help me subsidise my pension.

If you need any further info please feel free to e-mail me at visiboard@hotmail.com

If you would like to talk of a telephone that can be arranged.

Looking forward to your communication at your earliest convenience

    Kind regards

    John Noades

    John,

Not trying to talk you out of a laser but for the size / area you seem to want it would be far far cheaper to buy a vinyl cutter to cut the mask and a small, hand held, sand blaster to etch the glass. (a process you already know about)
From my experience laser etched glass does not look as good as sand blasted also the 'glass tube' lasers tend to suffer from 'banding' and many web pictures of laser produced work show this.

    I recently etched this owl which shows the type of banding;

OK it is not that serious but, on a shower door, it might make the difference between a happy customer and one you would never see again.

Lasers are incredibly good a doing some things but, IMHO they are not too good with large areas of glass. Small areas such as glasses bottles and trophy's they seem to excel at and of course many other things that you may be able to make to supplement your retirement income.

Hope this helps a bit, all the best,

    Tweakie.

Tweakie beat me to it, but I would also suggest a large format plotter (vinyl cutter). It is much cheaper and produces a better result for the type of work you require.

    Smile Thanks for the information

    Thanks for all that information.

I already have a large plotter as well as sand blasting equipment.
But cannot do large extremely detailed large format or large halftone work.

I have developed a process which will allow me to achieve highly detailed line work but the method of putting the mask onto the glass is extremely expensive.

If anybody wants to see some of my work I could send some pics by email
as the file is too large to be attached to this site,

    Any information eatly appreciated.

Once again thank you for taking the time to help me
Looking forward to hearing from you

    Kind regards

    John
