It sounds like a task for a Yb:YAG laser. Higher output power will result in higher marking speeds, in most cases but there is a limit. 20W fiber is probably the lowest you would want to consider.

I am considering a laser marking/engraving machine.
The material to be marked is Flat Steel with fine abrasive blasted surface.
The maximum size to be marked is 2" x 1" on flat surface.
The marking should be similar to the marking on the shanks of end mills, twist drills or saw blades.
A variety of machines are available and the price of USA suppliers are 3 to 5 times the price from China for similar power.
I would like to hear from any one having experience on metal marking regarding the suitable laser type, power requirement and USA vs China machine.

From various specifications and capabilities, I narrowed down on YAG laser with 50 W power.
75W and 100 W lasers I presume are increasing the depth of etch and widening the laser spot but not increasing the marking speed.
Nothing is finalized yet.

Rossey, if not a secret, what is your budget and where are you looking for laser - USA/Europe or China?
50W Nd or Yb YAG will provide excellent marking speed.
Higher power diodes allow increased depth OR speed up to a point but do not necessarily result in a larger spot size. They also increase the cost!

You can confirm one thing that YAG laser machine(laser wave length 1064nm) is the correct choice.
For material,is that stainless steel or carbon steel?The marking will be different on two kinds of steel.
1)Marking on Stainless steel:the color of the words will be black or white,and have color difference.The marking depth is not very clear.
2)Marking on carbon steel:the marking depth is a little clear,there is no color difference.
What is the size of your workpiece?
