    I have a couple question about my artsign lasers - 3060U and a JSM40

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and pretty new to lasers.
I purchased a JSM40 mainly for cutting small pieces for a hobby/business of mine. The little machine actually worked really good but as business grew I was in need of a bigger machine so I bought a 3060U..

My first question is this - My jsm40 is loud when it's engraving/cutting(laser output) I always figured this to be normal as it worked with no problems.. But then I got the 3060U - That thing is quite - almost no noise when firing the laser - Is there a way to get the jsm40 as quite as the 3060U??

Second question pertains to the flow thru the laser tube - with the same size hose and pumps on both machines the 3060u's flow rate is a lot less then the jsm40 .. Is this normal?? I'm thinking that it may just be the way the tubes are made..

And last but not least.. What temp to you guys and gals run your water cooler at.. I've been running at 40-45f on the inlet side of the jsm40 tube now for a year .. I just wanted to know if that's about a normal temp..

Anyway thanks for the replies in advance..

    Rich,

The jsm40 laser (tube) should not be much louder than the 3060U. It is difficult to know what is causing it since I don't know what sound you are hearing, but possibly the PSU.

Providing the flow rate is within spec and you aren't seeing any temperature rise (monitor the outlet) it isn't too important.

40-45f is on the cool side but ok, I actually prefer to run warmer since the differential between room temp and internal temp can have an effect on glass stress. Keep the output temp under 70f and you'll be fine.

The noise is a high pitched noise.. I'll see if I can take some video of it so you can hear it..

On the video I got with the lasers it says to keep the water temp at 38-41 degrees.. I usually see 44-48f on the inlet and 46-50f on the outlet.. It's never more than a few degrees..

That is their spec for input temp, when I said under 70f that was for output.

As I said, the delta from room temp to water temp is also a factor so 70f may not be acceptable in all situations.

My room temp is usually around 70 degrees.. I have a mini fridge converted to my chiller.. It's got a 6 gallon water reservoir and I bent the freezer portion to go directly in the water.. I have some mini fans on the condenser coils and the compressor.. I put a temp controller on it so I can set it at any temp I want.. It does get a little heat rise when I run both machines for a couple hours but not more than 5 degrees.. I try to set it a little colder so that when I run for long lengths of time that I still have a cool temp at the end.. I never see a delta of more than 4 degrees from the inlet of the laser to the outlet. I'll see if I can get some video today of the jsm40 so maybe you can help me determine if the noise is normal. I'd really like to get this laser as quite as the 3060
