I have a Omron 24VDC power supply and a Gecko G100 GREX (with inbuilt 5VDC regulator). The GREX has 24VDC supply from the Omron. To simplify wiring in the control cabinet, there would be an advantage for me to use one common ground for both power supplies. That is; same ground for both 24V and 5V Would this pose any problem? |

| The aim is to avoid the high currents in the motor power supply connections giving rise to unwanted voltage swings (noise) due to any common lengths of wire that carry both the motor and logic circuits power. If you just connect the negatives of the two suppies at the Gecko you should be OK. It is also good practice to use short heavy gauge wire particularly for the motor wiring and to place capacitors accross the driver amplifier terminals - 1000 pico farad disc ceramics are good at removing noise. Good luck with the rest of your build as you are thinking along the right lines. |
