Hello all, After much google searching I've pretty much run into a bunch of dead ends. I acquired a big old Campbell Hausfeld 60 Gal compressor that "doesn't work" I figured worst case scenario I replace a pump or motor. Well I plugged it in to my 220 outlet and it runs but the motor doesn't sound too good so I shut it off. some of that "magic smoke" was coming out of the motor. Only ran it for a few seconds. The cover for the electrical plate is missing (which I read has all the wiring info on it) I've taken some pictures & sketched a diagram in hopes someone can help me, or instruct me on how to figure out how this should be wired. White was connected to 4 Black was connected to 3 A yellow wire ties 5 to the top right terminal which is unmarked. Pic 4 is just the pressure switch to auto shut off, it's wiring matches the manual for the '98 model. Manuals/Parts Lists Too bad there was no wiring diagram for the motor in the manual This one seems to be the '95 model, latest manual is for the '98 Thank You, Andy |

| If it did not work previously it is possible the motor problem existed before you hooked it up. I would dismantle the motor and check the condition of the windings and the centrifugal start switch. You should have a capacitor mounted on the outside. The lead to the centrifugal switch will also help you identify the start winding and then it should be easy to hook up as the other winding will be the run winding. Al.

| Thanks Al, I'll open it up and have a look. Oops, I forgot to say why I thought it was wired wrong. While searching for info on this compressor motor, I came across this http://forum.doityourself.com/electr...gle-phase.html This person has pics that look very similar to mine and his is currently wired for 110 operation. Mine had a loose wire, but plugged it in where it looked like it should go because of how it was bent. (looked natural/unforced to stick the black wire back up on 3) - Andy |

| If you strip it down to check it, (recommended) then to reverse engineer the connections are the running winding across the 240v and the start winding in series with the capacitor in series with the start switch these also across the 240v. I doubt if you will find any 120v connection options for a motor that size. Al.

| Yeah, definitely cooked ![]() Might be worth a rewind though and the centrifugal switch replacing. Al.
