looking for some advise on vfds i am looking to purchase a spindle 4.7hp this spindle runs on 3phase 220v my supply is 220v single phase i would like to know if the foll will work the supplier has a vfd but is asking 800.00 i can obtain this on on ebay for 325.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/5-HP-VFD-VARIABL...item483867f507 thanks paul |

As far as I understand it (and I'm not an expert at this, but have set up a few machines with VFDs) you need to over-rate the drive by 50% if you're converting from single-phase. So for your 4.7 hp spindle, you'd be looking for a 7.5 hp drive. Not all of them will even work on single-phase, so be sure you get one that's designed to produce three-phase from single-phase.
