Hey. My Xylotex seems to be malfunctioning (primary Y axis no longer responds to the directional pin control, and takes every step in the same direction) Been looking at the G540 for some time, primarily because of the resonant frequency dampening. It's also got opto-isolator control and can handle way more amps, though those don't really matter. Obviously the question is - I purchased the 4 axis Xylotex box a couple years ago and its worked ok up until now. Since it comes with a 24 v power supply in it, are there any real tricks involved with simply putting the Gecko board in the box instead? and using the Xylotex supply? I think Mariss told me they were compatible. What are your thoughts. Thanks |

| Hi justCNCit. You should have no compatibility problems, and the G540, even at 24V will run the motors better than the Xylotex did. However, the G540 is not a board--It's in a metal case. You might consider just loosely wiring up the G540, and then using the mill to cut a slot in the case to surface mount the G540, thereby exposing its parallel port and motor connectors. Take a look at how TxFred mounted his: http://cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93251 CR. |
