Hi all, I want to know can I fuse a DC power supply? After the rectifier and capacitors? It would be like... Transformer-rectifier-capacitors-fuse... Or maybe Transformer-rectifier-fuse-capacitors... Do I just use regular fuses? Or is there a DC kind of fuse? |

| Yes you can and should fuse the dc power supply Transformer- Rectifier- Capacetors- Fuse The fuse should be on the + wire You can use the regular glass tube type fuses.. It should be a fast blow type. Jeff T. http://www.3dcarvestudio.com |

I'm not an expert thats for sure. But the idea of using a fuse is to protect the drive/motor. If you are using more than 1 drive/motor from the same power supply I can't see how having 1 fuse on the ac side of the rectifier is going to proctect the drive's/motor's Putting a fuse for each drive/motor on the dc side you protect each Drive/motor with its own properly sized fuse. | Its actually for a 12VDC power supply for the logic of a stepper drive, the problem is that this 12vdc 3.5A I have it one of those that you buy it already built and the transformer inside there is no way to connect any wire before the diodes... I always used on the AC side and it actually protects your driver, I had a short circuit on the driver 2 times, one when I was adjusting the trimpot on the L297 based driver and the other one I dunno what happened but the fuse blow and after I change it nothing was damaged. Is it just a regular fuse to use when using on DC? |

| Just the regular glass cyclinder type fuses work fine http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a...5/Fuses/1.html Should have a fuse for each drive... Sence its only a 3.5 amp supply I'm guessing your only using it to power 1 drive so doesn't matter were you put the fuse. But if you were trying to power more than 1 drive it should be 1 fuse for each drive and would need to be on the dc side of things after the capaciter. Jeff T. http://www.3dcarvestudio.com |
