Power supply and computer in same case. Bad idea?

Hopefully I'm in the right subforum for this question.

I'm setting up my computer to run my mill. I'm using a G540 and will be using Keling's KL- 4813 power supply.

I've got a working computer from a friend's scrap pile. There appears to be enough room inside the case to mount the G540 and the power supply, giving me a nice compact package.

Is this a good idea, or will the power supply cause all sorts of interference with the computer? I can make a shield between the two if necessary.

Will there be a potential problem with the power supply being bolted to the computer chassis, and thus sharing a ground plane?

Fred

Buy me a Beer?

You should be OK, it is best to bond all grounds anyway, whether PC is local to the system or remote from it.
It may pay to screen the MB off with a partition just to be on the safe side.
The Mits industrial systems I use, the 5v CNC processor is customarily daisy chained right next to the servo amps and large spindle drives and power supply.

Can you bolt the PSU on the outside? I'm not sure the computer will appreciate the added heat inside.

Thats a point, the PC cases I use come with two cooling fans fitted, as well as the PC P.S. fan.

Thanks for the responses. Cooling is an issue that I hadn't considered, but it will be easy to add extra fans to this machine to keep the power supply cool.

I think that I will add a shield to prevent any EMI problems. That's assuming it all fits. I'm still waiting to get my power supply.
