how do I discharge capacitor?

I am building my power supply for 4 axis stepper system.
It checks out fine at 67vdc.
How do I discharge the capacitor after testing, so I don't accidentally knock the tar out of myself?
Can I just short across the terminals on cap without damaging anything?
Thanks, John

Buy me a Beer?

If you have it connected to something just let the unit run it down, than you will need to put a res in between the terminals.

It's not connected to anything, its just on a board awaiting final assembly.
I plan to fabricate a cover for the whole thing when it's done.
Just dont want to have a shocking experience in the meantime.
Oh yea.... what resistor should I put in there?
Thanks

Grap yourself a 10K 1 watt or larger resistor and attach it across the + and neg leads.....you can leave it attached...check the voltage after 1 minute.

It`s a good Idea to put something like a 1watt 500K or even 1M resistor permently accross your bus. This will draw hardly andy power during normal operation but when the supply is turned off it will slowly discharge the bus.(maybe 5 mins - depends on the voltage, cap rating and resistor value).

Most professional drives/power supplies have this. They also switch a resistor across the bus when the supply is disabled.
