Need Help with 220 drop screen wiring

Hello everyone this is my first post
I have an interesting wiring problem. I purchased a surplus European spec electric drop down screen for my theater project. It is a Draper Premier screen. This has a 220 volt single phase motor. I've included the pdf file from the manufacturer. This would be the single station control setup on the pdf. The screen wiring is red (up screen), black (down Screen), white and green. Here's the problem: I can't determine if the white wire (neutral) is energized. If it's not, then there wouldn't seem to be any reason to run it through the double pole double throw switch that is on the pdf file. I've determined that Europe uses hot and ground. They don't use a neutral apparently. If it is energized, then are both Line 1 and Neutral 220(230 on the pdf)? The way the 230/50 HZ is illustrated on the pdf makes it difficult to determine. This is driving me crazy. Thanks for any input you can provide. Moderator: If this forum is not the appropriate one please relocate this thread. Thanks

If wiring it for 240v in N.A., you do not need to run a neutral, just the two 240v conductors and ground.
The neutral in the diagram is shown as a conductor as in Europe one side of the 240v is made a grounded neutral, rather than as US does, which is the centre tap of the 240v is made a grounded neutral.

    Thanks Al

I've got 14/3 Romex, with ground, from breaker to switch. Does this mean that I can just run a red and black from the breaker to the two inputs of the switch? Wouldn't that be 110 to each input instead of 220? I apologize for my ignorance when it comes to this. I've wired up plenty of standard NA stuff over the years, out of necessity, but I'm a grade schooler on theory. To give you an idea where I am with this case, I thought I could take the black and red,(off the 240 breaker I installed in the box) and twist em together to bring 240 to the rocker switch. Of course the breaker and the house main tripped instantly, leaving me in utter darkness in the basement. It's darker than hell down there.

Sounds like you are trying to blow the breaker out of the box!
You take the two conductors, black & Red, and feed each from the two 240v breaker terminals. DO NOT twist them together!
They will substitute the wires marked Neutral and L1. (Now L1 & L2).
If you are wiring the CE left hand diagram, then the two just go to the two switch input terminals, the ground wire (PE) is run as shown in the diagram.
It is 120 on each terminal, but only with respect to neutral, which you are not using.
You will have 240 between the two switch input terminals, which is what you want.

    Thanks Al
Ultimately I figured that I was simply shorting the lugs together. I suppose it could have been spectacular, but it was just instant utter darkness. Finding my way out of the basement was harder than running the wiring!
The screen rocker switch (double pole double throw)is an on-off-on (up-off-down). Am I correct that the "neutral"(L2) contacts on the screen side of the switch are jumpered so that they're energized in both directions?
Now I can only hope that nobody else is following this thread.
