    Shielded wire question

I am converting a denford orac lathe, and i was wanting to use the existing wire loom that is connected to the stepper motors and limit switches. The problem is these wires are all in one loom, and not shielded... Will it be ok to use this wiring, or should i replace it with shielded wire?

    Thanx
    Adam

    Just my 2cents.

I am running some 4nm AC stepper motors with unshielded cable and when I tried to hook up some limit switches they would trip constantly even when the signal wire came within a several inches of the motor wire. I suggest shielded cable or at least run the signal and motor wires completely separate from each other.

It may not be an issue with DC steppers though. testing will confirm.

I am looking for some shielded wire at a descent price if anybody knows where to get some.

I just ordered some from e-bay. I guess i will replace the original wiring, its just weird that it didnt seem to have an effect on the operation of the original equipment..

I imagine the original control was all integrated into one unit and was not mated to a PC?
If so, this could be part of the reason, all parts of the system would be bonded together.
