Will VFD work well on this motor?

I bought a Variable Frequency drive for the retrofit on my machine. My motor is about a 2 HP 3 phase motor, but it has 9 connections and you can wire it for high, medium, and low RPM's. The medium connection produces in the 1700's range for RPM's and the High connection setup runs in the 3400's or somewhere around there. Can't remember the low setting off hand. I just wonder if I can wire the VFD up in one of these configurations and have it work well, or do I just need to buy a new motor? If I need a new motor does it have to be one that just jas 3 wires?

It should work ok, to get the max HP you will probally have to connect it for 3400's range. You probabally should not go much above 60hz frequency out, it will depend on how well the motor is balanced.
