MPG and Momentary Switches?????

I have an salvaged MPG and want to use it in a console style scenario. Here's what I'd like to do. I'd like to connect the MPG to my BB and the use Momentary contact switches for the axis to move Can I just wire up the switches without any fancy electronics? Just the MPG and the switches and nothing else, like resistors or relays or processor chips. I am not electronically savy.

Most MPG's are 5v TTL compatible output, two pulse channels, A&B 100 pulses/rev.

So, what does that mean ?. Can I use the momentary on switches just to assign axis movement?

If you're using Mach3, then you should be able to. Mach3 has a button that toggles between the different axis for an MPG. You need to assign the switch to that button with an OEM Trigger.

So, if I made a configuration of six monentary's one for positive direction each axis and ditto for the negative direction how would that be wired to the BOB. What is an OEM trigger? Was'nt sure this made it thru read on to next text.

So, if I use one switch per axis(3) for positive movement and ditto for neg. movements(3) for a total of 6 switches, how would that be wired via BOB?. The MPG would handle the speed and the direction switches will handle the direction one axis at a time, or X & Y together?. What is an OEM trigger??

You could use one switch total. The switch would toggle between the different axis. or you can use one switch per axis. As for direction, that's dictated by which way you turn the MPG.

OEM Triggers are used to let external switches activate functions in Mach3. You assign them to the input pins in the ports and pins screen.

I had no idea ! Wow, one switch to toggle directed by the MPG +, -, Fabulous. This is practically a pendant except it won't be hand held. Thanks ger21, this is all I've ever wanted to do, as far as right at the machine control goes. KUDOS ger21
