Could somebody help, I have a small lathe that has a slotted encoder disc on the spindle 100 slots for count and 1 slot for index and I am trying to set it up for thread cutting with EMC2. It also still has its original photo interupters (NEC PS4001). but these originaly fed its own led digital readout which I have now discarded in favour of a display on EMC,s Axis. I have downloaded the data sheet for the interupters which has a typical application circuit on it. However this circuit gives a negative output to the signal but I think I need a postive signal for input to the parallel port so if I connect the resistor to the collector and connect my signal wire to this junction am I right in thinking this will give me a positve signal. The next thing is what size is the resistor, I have searched the net and found circuits with anything from 1K to 100K used. The interupters are fed from thier own 5V regulated supply circuit. I am using a Camtronics 3 Axis stepper board which has a connector on it for input pins to the para port. Is there a need for anything else between the interupters and the board or is it ok to connect these straight to the Camtronics board. Thank Rod |

| This appears to be a simple opto with darlington output, the diode is typical 20ma so it could be fed from 5v with 250 ohm resistor. the darlington output should work either sink or source, IOW the load resistor can be in the emitter or collector, the spec sheet shows a 100ohm on 5v supply. Al.
