    Planning electronics

I am a Newby, still in the planning stages of converting a Grizzly 0463 Sieg X3 type Mill to CNC.

I am really liking the simplicity of the Gecko G540 4 axis controller wired from a smoothstepper to allow going from USB to the motors.

I am planning on using Mach3 for machine control.

My question is about power matching.

Several people have suggested at least a 640 oz/in motor for Z axis
    like this one.
NEMA34 KL34H280-45-4A, HIGH TORQUE STEPPER MOTOR
    640 oz-in for Z axis

This motor is rated for 4.5 amps. but the G540 only goes up to 3.5 amps.

Will I be able to get a decent speed and performance out of the 4.5 amp motor with the G540 controller?

    Duke

    Duke,

Implement the eight wire version of that motor "KL34H280-45-8A", and wire it in series.
