    power supply for 201a

    hi to all
first of all its my new and first cnc hobby machine
    so please bare with me.
the machine is ready to run and i use mach2 but cant run it without the power supply

i have a problem to make a power supply for my machine.
i have 4 stepper motor rated 4.2A per phase max 84v need to drive them all
    in bipolar prallel
from an outlet of 220v (not 110v not in usa)

    questions:
can someone help me with the wiring for the g201a
i need to make power supply in 60v 12A
    1) capacitor ? uf ? v
    2) resistors for the g201 to limit current channel 11 12 om?
    3) if there is a schema for this kind of power supply ?
i tryed in geck drives forom & no one now ? 33 vews & not even 1 rep
    sum soport ah?
    thanks for your help

    Hi asitech,

Don't get discouraged by the lack of response. There will be someone come along that can help you. I can offer you a link that has a power supply design that should do what you need.

    http://www.campbelldesigns.com/

Mariss from Gecko does not frequent the Gecko forum here as much as his own forum on Yahoo. I can promise you that he is a man that takes support seriously but he will need to know your problem. Email him direct at his website.

Here is what you should do. Go to geckodrive.com.
then to support and download the PDF files for Power supply. it has all the details to build your own power supply. Its very simple. Just follow it.

Also, maybe you should try running those motors at about 60V, but thats just my feeling.

    hey hey hey,

    wait.

First put full spcs about your motors. Their brand, model no., torque , size etc..

Whats your application and howmuch torque do you need.

You should operate anywhere between 10 to 20 volts of your motors rated voltage.

    hi drk

    the motor ar
    "MAE HS200 2231 0300 BX 08's "
on the motor it sas 3A per phse 1.1 om resistens max 84v 8wire
BUT: in the data on the site is sas in bipolar parallel mod it is 4.2A perphase
thets all i now "if u andrstend thet i not good whitit "
& in israel whell u can't get help no hobby places only work :-)
im onley now what i get hear.
    thenks asi

This needs to be checked for the resistance per phase when wired in parallel.
It seems the resistance will become 1.1*1.1/2.2= .55

at 4,2A per phase , the volt rating is 4.2*.55=2.31 volts.

So keeping the operating voltage 15 times is 34.65..

So operating it around this value is good.

It will be within the safe limits and will give you good speeds.

@asitech: Use 60V. Then you still have some way to go to the max voltage of the motor which you said is 84V. Then when you set the max current (Ampere) for the motor the Gecko will only output as much voltage as it needs to give this much current. The need for voltage increase with speed, so 60V will be able to run your motors faster than 35V. And for such a power supply we don't count fractions of a volt, not even volts. So for all practical purposes 34.65V we just round off and call it 35V.

One you should not exceed is the max voltage specified for the Gecko drive.

And follow drk's advice, go to the Gecko website. If you don't understand what you find there, try to contact a radio amateur in your city. I'm sure some of them would be happy to help you, maybe in return you can help them with some machining. Start here to get in contact: http://www.iarc.org/
