I'm having problems with my mills spindle speed controller and hope some one might be able to help me sort it. I have nearly no electronics experience so please be gentle ![]() What's happing is while turning the speed up or down the revs are all over the place. In mid range settings the spindle will rev up and down and on occasions stop completely. Its never been good from the day I got it and I should have sorted it while on warranty but it seems to be getting worse or my tolerance levels are decreasing as the machine gets closer to the scrap yard. It does have some adjustable things inside namely (blue in pic) IR, CL, max revs, min revs and acceleration. Hopefully its just one of these that needs a tweak? Any one? John |

| A little more information would help, I assume this is a DC motor, did you fit the controller or was it on the machine? It looks like a Baldor/KB type and the pots are labelled the same. See http://www.baldor.com/support/litera...anNumber=MN703 This tells how to adjust them. Was the correct HP resistor fitted? This is the white plug-in one. It looks like .5 ohms which normally would be for a 1/20hp motor? Al.

| Those drives are often supplied under different labels, The motor would be around a 1.25hp, the Baldor KB resistor for that would be ~.01 ohms. The motor wouldn't have a tach by any chance? Al.

| One of the strange things is I've Googled the motor and the spec sheets say it's 220Vdc but mine has 240v on the label? No tach as far as I know. Resistor is 5w OR 5 EDIT: btw the speed does stay constant most of the time once its set. John |

| Thanks for the help Al, I've made a small adjustment to the IR and things have improved considerably (but not perfect). I will monitor things and see how it goes but the whole thing probably needs setting up properly. So for now some more red iron has been saved from the scrap yard and contributing to GW. John |

| The resistor looks like it is marked 5w .5 ohm. Al.

Would that be correct for my motor? http://motion-controls.globalspec.co...5-92AA57EA42BA Also how would it be calculated for others just in case I want to change motors? John |

| If your unit conforms to the Baldor one, there is a chart in PDF to pick the right resistor, normally when you buy these units, you have to state the HP of the motor, the supplier then will offer you the right value at the time. As I mentioned, the value they show is .01 ohms for 1 to 2 hp. See if you can find out from the manuf. it looks like they did a knock-off of the Baldor units. Al.
